Lance is back in France in 2009 and this year's Tour promises to be even better than in the past! The unique route provides for great variety and terrain, with the fantastic Time Trial around Lac d'Annecy and the penultimate day's battle being fought on the slopes of one of the most famous climbs in France, Mont Ventoux, the Giant of Provence.
Viva Travel has secured two fabulous inns with great access to the stages, so shuttling is minimal and we only change hotels once! Very few tour companies can offer a hotel right on the lakeside of Lac d'Annecy. It gives tremendous access to stage 17, either just to the top of the Col de la Colombiere or to the finish in Le Grand Bornand, or for those who desire, the opportunity to ride the final 77 km of the stage, viewing the arrival of the riders from the Hors Category Col de la Colombiere!
For today's dramatic Time Trial, few companies can offer such convenience as we have with our hotel right on Lac d'Annecy. Ride the entire route, then pick anywhere along the route to view the stage, including both the departure and arrival in Annecy! Finish the day with an optional ascent up the famous Col de la Forclaz (and its 15% grades) overlooking the lake below.
We'll then transfer to Provence to ride through the land of olive groves, vineyards, lavender and medieval villages. Stage 19 will be incomparable as you climb the Giant of Provence, Le Mont Ventoux. Our final day of riding will be hopping from one medieval perched village to another in the world-renowned Lubéron region of Provence. Back at the hotel, we'll watch the arrival in Paris on TV while sipping a Cote du Rhone or your favorite libation, followed by a farewell banquet!
This tour is a combination of the best of the best that challenging cycling in France has to offer. Eight epic climbs and numerous other smaller climbs will be at your disposal. Some easier routes on non-stage days are also an option, riding through vineyards and charming villages. But it begins and ends with excellent hotels, fantastic dining and an experienced team to take care of all your needs!
